Can testosterone injections cause heart problems?
Heart Attack Risk and Testosterone Therapy
Problem: Several studies have suggested that men in testosterone replacement therapy programs have an increased risk of cardiovascular problems (heart attack and stroke).
Careful review of these studies revealed problems with their methodologies, meaning their conclusions were in doubt.
Researchers then conducted a meta-analysis, meaning a “study of studies,” to determine if testosterone therapy increased or decreased the risk of cardiovascular problems, focusing specifically on heart attack risk.
Conclusion: testosterone therapy does not increase cardiovascular risk. In fact, the data showed that for men with low testosterone who were in a testosterone therapy program, the risk was slightly less than half that of men with low testosterone in a control group who were not being treated.
